The Idea:

"A Single Point of Light shines from your heart, illuminating the path to your dreams.  Let it shine for the world to see.  It lights the way; follow it to your destiny."  (--Bloodsong)

This is me fooling around with FDP 5 when I first got it.  I love these freaky new floater filter thingies.  (Oops, that's gonna freak the spell-checker out..!)

This image is specially dedicated to my mom.

Tools:

Scanned photograph, Fractal Design Painter 5, Adobe Photoshop 4, Kai's Power Tools 2 and 3

Main Image:

This was a black and white GIF of my mom I had lying around on my hard drive.  Er, it WAS...  In FDP5, I started playing around with the new neon and flame paint brushes.  Then went a big crazier with the swirly filter brushes.  These are kinda like Kai's Power Goo; you set the direction of your swirl, and the more you swish your brush around, the swirlier it gets... (I can tell the spell-checker is NOT going to like this page at all.  But enough about me.)
Then I did something...  Don't quite remember, but it made the picture all abstract and wavy and everything else.  Um, chalk it up to spontaneous artistic inspiration.  ::cough cough::
There is a beveled burnt shape in the middle, sandwiched amongst all those spheres.  The burn floater filter doesn't do much for me, but bevel world is loads of fun!

Since FDP5 will only do KPT3 and not 2 and 3 like 'Shop does... (Did I mention how much KPT 3 hates my tablet?  KAI!!!  Fix it!!)  So I switched back and forth from FDP to 'Shop several times.  The main reason was to do these glass lens spheres and float them around on top of each other, and paint shadows, highlights and transmitted light through them... and whatever else I did.  I think I tried pinching the background... that would explain the lines along the lower right edges.  There's probably a KPT video-feedback or FDP kaleidoscope thing going on in there, too.

Background & Text:

After I was done fooling with the spheres and I had decided on which level I liked the beveled burn, I slapped a serious surface texture on the background, using the image luminescence.  Looks like real globby paint, don't it?
The lettering is another cool new FDP5 effects floater thing; Impasto.  This lets you paint with 3dimensionality (ie: globby paint or, if you do it inverse, scooped paint).  If you are going to scrape into your background, as I did here, you have to remember to float the entire image first.  Otherwise, you'll end up with an opaque white floater over your image.
Also, the fancy new filters like Impasto and Liquid Metal aren't too keen on Undo (although you can Undo your last Impasto strokes for as many as you have Undo levels).  You can, however, clear them, and/or discard the floater they're on.
