Can a strong, tough, macho, barbarian warrior be sensitive and vulnerable? Can his companion be caring and compassionate? Can they express themselves in a touching manner? And, to top it all off, can they do it without being homophobic?

This is Conan and Barbaros, sitting on a Poser cylinder. Barbaros took his wolf head off and has the curly hair thing. He's also wearing the FreeBay loin cloth deal. Conan has Barbaros' axe. Barbaros is (hopefully inconspicuosly) without a weapon. He, er, laid his sword down behind the log.
So then I exported everything as one obj, and was THAT a mess. But using figure names and not groups... I was able to consolidate the materials in uvmapper into some semblance of order. I had to take out the arm rings; Vue doesn't like Poser torii. I also seem to have missed Barbaros' right boot's shin. :/ A little tweaking to the mtl file, and most everything loaded up into Vue with the right colours/textures.
I built this in Vue fairly quickly. I started with my "Dark Dominion" scene. Tossed in the background mountains. Grew a few trees and scattered copies for the background forest. The midground bushes on the left are plum trees. I wanted an overhanging, large sorta tree/group behind the figures, so I threw a buncha maple trees there. I needed higher branches, so I stuck one up in the air. It's behind the figures, so you can't tell, anyway. The ground is a flattened terrain, with another stuck in it for the fire area deal.
I wanted a stormy, gloomy background, so I loaded a rainy atmosphere. It sucked. The light was washed out, there were no good shadows, and... it wasn't gloomy enough. So I ended up swiping back the atmosphere I had for the storm in "Dark Dominion." Then the shadows were too dark, so I put a 'bounce' light down in front of the figures to light up the shadows. Perhaps a bit too much.
Rendered at moderate size (I don't expect to print it),
and sent it to 'Shop. There, I painted on the arm cuffs, darkened the
shadows I over-lightened, brushed out the hair, smoothed the shoulders and
knees.... Then I wanted to scuff them up quite a bit, so on an overlay
layer, I painted on some bloody scratches and some white scars. Oh, and some
purple and greenish bruises. And let's not forget I had to paint Barbaros'
boot back on, with some smearing and sampled colours.
I tinkered with the moss on the log, and made it more
spotty, and dotty. Cloned out roots to make it look less like a Poser
cylinder and more like a tree trunk. I smeared the grass up into blades
(a little). I didn't save the Z-buffer render, so I just sprayed on
a quick mask with the airbrush, and blurred the distant background a bit.
