The Idea:

The sun glows on the horizon as it sets, yet the night burns with the golden glow of a Tyger's eyes.

Tools:

     CorelDraw 3, 4 or 5,  Fractal Design Painter 2x, 3, or 4, Adobe Photoshop 3 or 4 (it's been a while.)

Background:

This is actually a '96 version of an image I made even before then.... Well, I never got around to posting it here, before.  Anyway, I envisioned it as an FDP painting, but couldn't get the watercolour to gradate like that, or to be that saturated, sooooo....
I created the background gradient in 'Draw.  The top part is a rectangle, but in reality, the gradient is a blend of shapes from the bright yellow lozenge shape of the sun at the bottom, up through the spectrum to the dark sky.

In the original version, the trees were made up of 'Draw clip art trees and branches, on lumpy freeform shapes with gradients.  In this version, I actually painted them with watercolour brushes in Painter.  Except for the transparent branch, they look pretty decent.  I like the way the far background glows with the fading sunlight.

Foreground:

In the original version, I had drawn the silhouette and ground on a piece of paper, stuck it under the acetate cover of my AceCad drawing tablet and traced it in FDP with the mask tool.  The eyes are cut out to show the sunset background through them.  Then painted the selection in.  I do think this version was created from a saved mask of the original.  It is filled in with black airbrush, or ink... then airbrushed with some pale yellow around the edges.

Then in 'Shop, I painted the stars with the -- guess what -- star-shaped brushes and airbrush.  The text was set in that... Liberty or Unical or whatever that Hobbit-style lettering is, with a sorta tigerish orange colour.
