The Idea:

I always loved the composition of Guy Coheleach's painting "The Chase," and wanted to do it.  Why?  I dunno, it's just so cool, how the antelope and cheetah are all diagonal and doing a v-shaped thing.  My Big Cats book was packed away in storage while I worked on this, so I didn't have a direct visual reference (nor did I recall the exact title...!), so I had to go by memory

You can see Guy Coheleach's work here.

Tools:

     Poser 4, Vue d'Esprit 3, Photoshop 4

Background:

After recyling the rhino African background about four times... I decided it was time to make a new one.  The background of this image wasn't going to be prominent, anyway.

I started out with shasta rock as the ground, and then an eroded moundy flat terrain with dry grass on it, shoved into it.  Two distant mountain terrains have a modified Whole Mountain material (available in my Vue Goodies page), with no snow, and dry grass instead of sand.  There are background mountains, you can't really see them.  There's also some dry grass foothills.

Then I loaded an atmosphere... now I can't remember which one.  One of the sunshine ones.  I changed the fog and haze colour from grey/blue to yellow-brownish, to keep the warm colour of the image.
There's some Vue dry weeds scattered here and there.  The dust is a buncha spheres with... well, a dust material on 'em.

Figures:

These are posed together in Poser.  The Tommie is the DAZ buck, which I have gotten ahold of and messed with its genetic structure to get a bunch of antelopes.  The Cheetah is the Poser 3/4 cat (version 2).   The antelope pack should be available for sale at DAZ shortly; the Cheetah is a free figure on my Poser Goodies page.

Post Production:

I had to repaint the cheetah's eyes... as usual.  I still can't get them to face the right way, even though I made cat eye movement morphs and used them.  I had to blur up a lot of stuff inside the dust, Vue didn't un-noise the diffuse stuff very much, even though I used the Ultra render.  I also didn't like the dotty astro-turf grass, so I used the smear tool and a hairy brush to make the foreground short grass stand up.
The edges of the dust spheres in this image weren't too bad, but I did add some dust at the antelope's feet, and some in the upper right, where there was a smooth demarcation.
Some other touch-ups here and there, not much.  Fluffed up the tail tips, enhanced the cheetah's whiskers and eyebrows... made some shadows softer, some harsh lines more smooth.  Stuff like that.
